Saturday Strikes

I thought while B was out on strike (hopefully not for long) I would talk about what is going on and how we have been affected by it in the past week.

Week 7

This week was pretty quiet.  The company and the union have been meeting to discuss the contract.  It doesn’t seem that much progress is being made.  Maybe there is but it sure hasn’t been communicated to us.  The only thing the workers have been told for sure is that they no longer have their positions they used too.  They now are zone operators and rotate on the different jobs in their area.  So instead of B working in just the water treater he will also work in the three other areas.  It seems counterproductive to me because they will not have workers who specialize in one area and have knowledge of other areas.  Now they will have knowledge of all areas but no specialization.  Don’t you need someone who specializes in a certain area so that they can fix the issues when there are some.  You know the saying “Jack of all Trades, Master of None.”  The union just gave it to the company and didn’t even try.  It seems from hearing the workers talk that, it was probably one of the biggest concerns for them.  See how well the union listens to the workers! (Note: Hint of sarcasm.)

B got our Strike Relief Check this week and it was way more than the $200/week allotted for each worker.  Our check was over $500 (it should have been $400).  I am totally grateful for the money, but wonder who got short changed so we could get more?

We were treated to Smokey Bones for dinner last night and it was delicious.  Although we should have not eaten meat (Lent and all) I couldn’t pass it up.  The meat just fell apart in your mouth and was so tasty.

Next week will make it two months that B has been off work.  While he has been working a ton to get extra money, he has also been away a ton of hours.  Last night I was on the phone with B and P should have been sleeping but took a short snooze before bed so she wasn’t ready yet.  She must have heard B’s voice because all of a sudden her head jerked and she grabbed for the phone.  The minute she got near the phone she was babbling like crazy and smiling.  So I talked to B on speaker after that and had to fight P to talk on the phone.

Disclaimer: I have never claimed to be any great writer. So any mistakes that are made are my fault. Sometimes I mix up names B, S, and P, but I think you can figure out who I am talking about. If you find any grammatical errors just fix it in your mind so it sounds right.
