Happy Father’s Day!

Every year since S was born I have always made or had something made for B.  This year I just didn’t have it in me.  I have totally been slacking on everything since P was born.  I used to make sure B had cards from S for everything..Valentine’s Day, birthdays, Father’s Day, etc.  Now he is lucky if we remember to get him anything.  Here is a collection of what I did for B for the first years and here is what we did this year.

S-6 months old…I found this clay that when heated to a certain degree turns into metal.  I cast a baby fingerprint of S and then took that cast and made an imprint onto the clay I had shaped into a rectangle.  I then painstakingly carved around the outside of the fingerprint “I left a thumbprint on daddy’s heart.”  I had to carve this in with a needle, and it took hours.  When I gave it to B I also gave him the directions on how to make it into metal.  Basically you take a blowtorch to it and cook it.  It never got done and still sits in my scrapbooking desk.  Maybe someday.

S-1 1/2 years old…How was I going to top last year?  I found someone who turned S’s handprints into bumper stickers.  I didn’t have to get 500 made, but instead I only made 20 for like $20 bucks.  I was totally willing to go up to $50.  S got one for his hard-hat at work, my dad got one which he put on his motorcycle and S’s godfather got one for his hard-hat.  It was a hit with everyone.

S-2 1/2 years old…I was not sure what to do so I found a really cool picture of S playing with the same Fisher Price toys that were B’s when he was a baby.  I got the picture printed and framed it for him.  It now hangs in the garage.

S-3 1/2 years old…I really didn’t know what to do so I did another picture of S this time with B.  It was a great picture of the two of them together.  I also had this framed and it hangs in the garage.  S made a Father’s Day Frame, a magnet, and gave him no texting thumb gloves.

S-4 1/2 years old & P 1 month old…I didn’t do anything and the night before I figured out what to do.  A while back S made a picture frame at a Home Depot build that was made of natural wood.  I decided to take that frame and put the kids fingerprints all over the frame with a picture of the two of them inside.  My sister came over to help with P because we all know a one month old is not going to cooperate for this art project.  Lucky for me she slept through the whole process. We also made a cake.  S added chocolate sprinkles to the dog so he wouldn’t be hungry.

S-5 1/2 years old & P 1 year old…I had not thought of anything original to do.  Finally, last Tuesday I thought of it.  B has been wanting a new grill for over a year.  We never found one for the price he was willing to pay.  We happen to go over to the new Costco last week and he found one.  He said he would come back and get it another time if he really wanted it.  I asked S if he wanted to get it for B and he was all for it.  S did great keeping the secret and today we went to Costco and got the grill all by ourselves.  S had kept the secret all week-long until B called on the way home and he started to spill the beans until I screamed over him so B couldn’t hear.  We headed outside to wait for B and I decided to paint the driveway with chalk paint.  In the end, I did do a little art project for this Father’s Day.  I wrote Happy Father’s Day and S drew the box where I was supposed to put the grill.
