Now that P and S have to wear masks to school every day.  With the smaller children (K-4) the school decided to buy lanyards for each child to attach to their masks so when they take them off, they are still hanging on them and not being set down to be lost or get more germs.  P did not really care for the black lanyard that she was given and wanted something “cute” as she said.

I did a little shopping looking for stretch cord/elastic, beads, and lobster claw hooks so I could make her a few.  Believe it or not elastic is still super hard to find so I decided on plastic stretch cord.  We already had some beads at home, so I got a few more different kinds at the Dollar Tree.  I couldn’t find the lobster claws I wanted but when I came home, I was happy to see I was approved to review jewelry lobster claws so it was perfect timing.  I also got approved for 20 Halloween Charms, 26 Metal Charms with Enamel Initials, and 600 8mm Satin Luster Faux Pearl Beads.  This was great and I was able to make 3 different lanyards and a bracelet for P so she now can “match” her lanyard to her outfit and masks.

The lobster claws are the perfect size at 23mm x 12mm and came in a set of 50.  I got 2 packs of them so I could make a ton of the lanyards for P or any of her friends.  With the lobster claws that are larger it is easier for small fingers to open and close the clasp so they can change out what mask they are going to wear.

I was able to find small seed beads that are Frozen colors, shape beads, and wooden beads at the Dollar Store.  With the beads I made a Frozen inspired lanyard with P’s name on it.  The name beads we already had at home.  The other lanyard I made her was with the wooden beads and shape beads.  She really loved the first two lanyards that I made and was happy with them until she saw the other beads and charms, I got and wanted more.

The Halloween Charms came in a set of 20 (2 of each).  They would probably be ideal for making earring sets, but P really wanted a Halloween charm bracelet so that is what I did.  I was able to find beads that we had from home that were orange and black.  Combining them with the charms was just enough for the size of P’s wrist.

The 26 Metal Charms with Enamel Initials I picked to have the light blue enamel because they were the Frozen blue color.  Does anyone else see a theme with these lanyards or is it just me?  I couldn’t make the word “Piper” because there are two p’s  and I only had one.  So P got to choose from the word “Frozen” or “Elsa.”  She of course picked Elsa. So I made a lanyard with the remaining beads that I had that were Frozen colors adding in the E, L, S, A letters.  Since there was not an extra O-ring on each letter, I had to individually tie each letter so they were turned out.  I actually like this one the best out of the four I made.

The 600-piece Linsoir Satin Pearl Beads came 15 different colors in a plastic storage container.  P and I discussed on what pattern she would want in the lanyard we made with these beads.  She decided on trying to put princess colors together.  For example, Snow White would be red and blue, Elsa and Anna would be light blue and pink, etc.  P loved the way the lanyard turned out and was so excited to wear it to school.
