Silly Saturday

Silly Saturday is dedicated to my pets. Since my son, S was born four years ago my pets were my babies. Now they have taken a back burner in life. I will discuss all of the funny, gross, weird, etc. things that have happened in the last week with the pets. Right now I only have three pets, 2 dogs, PJ and Derby and one fat cat, Neezer.  I haven’t done a Silly Saturday in quite some time now

Derby-Today is totally dedicated to Derby.  I was going to work on this post last night until Derby changed the events of the night for me.

I was sitting in the recliner watching the last of Jimmy Fallon and started smelling a skunk.  No big deal, a skunk must have sprayed in the field by us.  The smell kept getting worse and all of sudden it was the worst smell I have ever smelled.  (When I was younger we lived in the country.  I have smelled my fair share of skunks and nothing smelled like this.  One time we even had a skunk on our front porch and stood on the other side of the window looking at it.  That was nothing compared to what I smelled.)  I called Derby over and smelled the back of her neck.  It was awful.   It was like the funkiest smell ever.  It didn’t smell like a skunk but almost like a burning chemical.  I locked her in the bathroom downstairs and figured she could stay there until B got home in the morning.  (The dog door is located in that bathroom so she could either be outside or in the bathroom.)  I went outside to see how bad the skunk smell was, and nothing.  It did not smell like anything outside.  I called B and told him deciding to just go to bed and not deal with it anymore.  The smell never faded so I finally gave in at 1:15am and gave Derby a bath.  I had to tie a rag around my face so I didn’t have to smell it because it was burning my throat.  When the bath was done Derby no longer smelled.  I was questioning how could it be a skunk and after I wash her with her dog shampoo the smell has gone away?  Growing up our dog got sprayed by a skunk at least four different times and we could never get the smell to go away.  That dog took so many tomato juice baths and it still didn’t get rid of the smell completely.

When I got up in the morning I opened the house up, and turned on the house fan in hopes of sucking in some fresh air.  It worked, and the house smelled so much better.  We went to my mom’s to swim and get fresh air because at this point I had a headache.  I kept smelling the skunk smell.  I finally figured it out.  It was on P’s bouncer, car seat, diaper bag, and my purse.  Everything smelled like a skunk.  Great we are going to be that stinky family that everyone looks at in the stores because we smell.  When I got home I checked Derby again and nothing.  She smells like her regular self and her shampoo.  We could not believe the garage smelled so bad because Derby was never in the garage when she was stinky.  B put her collar in a baggie in the garage.  The smell was so strong on the collar that it permeated through the bag and was making the entire garage stink.  I cannot explain the smell, and can still smell it 24 hours later.  I had the house opened up today again and could not smell it.  The minute I close the house up the smell gets strong again.  We threw out the carpet runner, small rug, dog bed, collar and dog tags.  The smell is still in the house somewhere and I cannot figure out where.

I just have one more thing to say, “Thanks a lot Derby!”
