Moms Meet Harvestland Review

I applied through Mom’s Ambassador to try this product and review it on my blog.  I was so happy to be selected to review Harvestland products.  #momsmeet

HARV-product-shot

Harvestland was born in the rich farmland of western Kentucky.  With a vision of more natural choices and a more authentic connection to their food, Harvestland abandoned the common practices of giving antibiotics to livestock and adding animal by-products to feed.  The brand has since grown to include antibiotic-free chicken, turkey, and pork and USDA-certified organic chicken that are pure and simple, just like our ancestors would have eaten.  With Harvestland, you can feel good about the food you serve your family because they believe that all families deserve to eat well.

Here are some facts about Harvestland:

  • All chickens are raised on family farms with very strict USDA Process Verified programs, which ensures that the chickens are fed all-vegetarian diets with no animal by-products, raised cage-free and are never given antibiotics, ever.
  • Raised to the same standards as their chicken, Harvestland turkeys are fed an all-vegetarian diet with no antibiotics, steroids or hormones.
  • Pork is the latest addition to the Harvestland brand. Their hogs are raised on family farms in the Midwest and are also fed an all-vegetarian diet with no antibiotics, hormones or steroids.
  • Harvestland also offers USDA-certified organic chicken. These chickens are raised without antibiotics on free-range, organic farms and are fed an all-vegetarian diet of certified organic ingredients.
  • The Harvestland product line includes fresh chicken, turkey, and pork products, as well as a variety of fully-cooked refrigerated, frozen and deli meats. Prices vary based on the retailer.

I had B search at Meijer and Kroger’s to see if they had Harvestland and neither did.  So he tried Wal-Mart.  They did have Harvestland but not a great selection.  The only product they carried at our store was ground turkey.  That happens to work out great for us because I have been eating ground turkey since my mom switched us over when I was in junior high.  That was about 25 years ago (I know I am aging myself).

Turkey Meat

When I opened up the box I was surprised to find anything other than the coupons for the meat that I was expecting.  There were 10 coupons to get 10 products, 3 different recipes, a kitchen timer and measuring cups.

B bought Harvestland turkey patties and ground turkey.  Obviously with the turkey patties B made cheeseburgers.  These were from the preformed patties, and they tasted awesome.  I love ground turkey and these were good.

Premade Patties

So far B has made five different dinners with the Harvestland ground turkey.  We had tacos, meatloaf, spaghetti, stuffed peppers, and finally cheeseburgers again.

The tacos tasted like normal tacos to me.  The only difference we noticed was there was hardly any grease to soak up after cooking the meat.  Because of that there was not really enough liquid to soak up the taco seasoning so it tended to be a little drier than normal.

Tacos

I love meatloaf and cannot remember the last time I ever had meatloaf with beef, so I prefer it with ground turkey.  This had a great flavor to it.  Sometimes when you make meatloaf with ground turkey it will leave a layer of fat in the bottom of the pan, but with this meat there was nothing.  It was visually appealing which I would say normally ground turkey meatloaf is not.

The spaghetti was great.  I failed to get a picture of it so you will have to take my word for it on what it looked and tasted like.

The stuffed peppers looked great, but I never tried them.  I don’t really care for stuffed peppers but will usually eat them when B makes them.  Unfortunately, he made these on Mom’s Night and they weren’t done before we left so I never got a chance to eat any.  When I got home B said don’t eat them because I would not like them.  He said there was too much rice in the mixture.

Stuffed Peppers

B made the cheeseburgers this time forming the patties on his own.  Instead of making four smaller burgers he made three good-sized burgers.  Since it was freezing outside this time B cooked the patties in a frying pan.  He could not believe it but he had to add a little oil to the pan because there wasn’t enough fat to keep them from burning when they were cooking.  He said it was a first for him.  The burgers were great.  Instead of adding the traditional ketchup on my burger this time I put Honey BBQ sauce on it and it was amazing.  B said these cheeseburgers really kept the heat inside them and I would have to agree.

Overall, I was very impressed with this Harvestland ground turkey.  We managed to make some great meals.  I love that I have had all of these meals before with other ground turkey so that I could really give a great comparison on the difference.  I was so happy to get the chance to review Harvestland on my blog.
