I have always made all the baby food for both of my kids. When S was just over a year he became a picky eater as far as textures go. He would drink anything in a smoothie and still will. When we would go places we always had to make sure we took his meals with us. I was and am still pretty healthy with what they eat (No McDonald’s ever in our house!) so by taking S’s meals I ensured he didn’t eat junk food. Food Pouches were just getting introduced and making your own food pouches wasn’t really an affordable option. We bought food pouches for S and he loved to eat them. With P I have been able to use the baby food I made into smoothies that I have put in food pouches. It works out great and is actually very economical for us.
I have a few other kinds of reusable pouches and am hoping I can find the best. The Basic Best Reusable Food Pouches are easy to fill from the bottom. There is a super strong zip-lock system on the bottom to ensure the pouches do not open. I have to say the pouches are a little difficult to fill and not get the food in the zip-lock mechanism. When I did manage to fill the pouches I was always over filling them and had to empty some out before I could seal them. I also am very careful with the pouches that have a bottom seal because I do not 100% trust that the zip-lock will work.
I have used top loading reusable pouches before. They are a little harder to fill, but I don’t have to worry about the bottoms opening up. The bottom loading reusable pouches are significantly easier to clean. I would clean out the pouches with a little soap and water and then put them in the dishwasher to sterilize them.
